Family History has been my avocation since my teenage years. A long time!
My interest in family history feeds and intensifies my interest in history
in general, and vice versa. My desire has always been to take a person
who is little more than a name and set of dates in the family bible and
flesh out that person in the culture, politics, and flavor of his/her
time in history. None of us is unaffected by our place in time and geography.
Our ancestors were simalarly affected. To understand the person, you need
to consider the geography they lived in and the events they lived through.
Then the choices they made become clearer.
